Chiefs Update 4 - Week 2

The Chiefs beat the Chargers 27-24

It was another thrilling Chiefs victory as the Chiefs narrowly defeated their strongest AFC West rival by only three points. The Chiefs won behind Patrick Mahomes' stellar outing versus the Chargers, and a Pick 6 by a rookie to save the game with a Pick Six. Mahomes threw for 235 yards, 24/35, and for two touchdowns. The receiving yards leader of the game was Travis Kelce with 51 yards. Jaylen Watson, a rookie out of Washington State was the unlikely hero of the game, with 10 minutes to go in the 4th quarter, he intercepted a badly thrown ball by Herbert and took it 99 yards to the endzone for a Kansas City touchdown.

The story of the Chief's Week 2 hero, Jaylen Watson

Jaylen Watson was an unlikely candidate to even make an NFL roster in this year's draft. He spent his first two years out of high school playing at a small community college. After two seasons of blood sweat and tears, he got the chance to attend a much more notable football program at The University of Southern California. Unfortunately for him, he wasn't eligible to play there because of his academic standing. Not even two years ago, Watson was working at a Wendy's back home in Augusta, Georgia to help pay his mom's bills. Eventually, he worked hard enough and earned a scholarship to play football at Washington State University. Surely, his resiliency and talent helped him in his defensive skills that helped the Chiefs win their game this past week.

Willie Gay gets suspended for four games

Back in January, Willie Gay was arrested by Overland Park, Kansas police for, "misdemeanor destruction of property of less than $1000." Gay was shortly released from jail the next morning and continued to practice with the team during last season's playoff run. Gay signed a diversion agreement with the Johnson County Courthouse, he is required to submit to alcohol and drug testing at any time for the next 12 months. Gay will next be available to play on October 23rd when they visit the San Francisco 49ers. To make up for Gay's absence, the Chiefs are expected to rotate backup linebackers or sign a free agent to make up for his slack.
