After 7 months of doubt, the loss of our number one wide receiver, and the departure of many tenuous players, the Chiefs finally had their opportunity to silence the haters and prove everybody wrong this past Sunday. The game started out just the way we wanted it to, Kansas City had received the ball first and coasted their way to the endzone thanks to a beautiful touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes to Travis Kelce. All the months of doubt and trash talking on the Chiefs seemed to have stopped by the time halftime came around. The score was 23-7 in the Chiefs' favor. The second half was no different, as we added another 21 points on three passing touchdowns to seal the deal against the Cardinals. The biggest takeaway from this Week One beatdown was that the Chiefs are still Super Bowl contenders.

Harrison Butker injures his ankle on a kickoff and Justin Reid takes over
The Chiefs' Harrison Butker was unfortunately injured on his first kickoff of the season. While attempting a routine kickoff, Butker slipped on the turf with his left ankle and sprained it. He had to get carted off the field to avoid further injury on it. This brought a unique opportunity for Chiefs safety Justin Reid, who had been practicing kickoffs and field goals in the preseason, to kick for the team while Butker was injured. While there is no metric to measure kickoffs, he was kicking the ball off just as well as any kicker would. He went 1 for 2 on extra points and did not attempt any field goals. Make sure to be on the lookout for any other team that picks up Justin Reid as their own placekicker.

Patrick Mahomes wins AFC Offensive Player of The Week
Just another one of many accolades to add to the 26-year-olds already stacked resume, Patrick Mahomes wins this season's first AFC Offensive Player of the Week. The Quarterback was nearly perfect, throwing 30-39, 360 yards, and 5 touchdowns! Mahomes was distributing the ball all over the field, he threw to nine different receivers and four of them caught touchdown passes. In Mahomes' fifth year as a starting quarterback, this was his sixth time throwing for five or more touchdown passes. Surely an MVP-caliber performance that will set the precedent for the remainder of the season.
